Global, Region and Market Spending, Trends & Analysis
The PQ Media Global Digital Out-of-Home Media Forecast 2012-2016 5th Edition has been expanded to 28 digital-forward countries in 4 regions to help executives worldwide better gain perspective, identify and assess growth opportunities, and advance their strategic initiatives in digital out-of-home (DOOH).
According to PQ Media's new global forecast, expansion into new venues and markets, enhanced features, and mobile and social media tie-ins fueled double-digit growth in the global digital out-of-home industry in 2011, making it one of the fastest-growing and vibrant advertising media in the world. Total worldwide DOOH revenues increased 15.3% to $6.97 billion in 2011, driven primarily by the robust Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, the largest and fastest-growing of the four major regions, PQ Media estimates. Excluding the cinema venue - which is considered a traditional medium in many countries and is therefore vulnerable to weak economic conditions - global DOOH revenues surged 25.3%. The report provides exclusive Tables of global revenue and growth by region and market for 2011 and 2016, by digital place-based networks (DPN) and digital billboards (DBB) platforms.
The US is the largest DOOH market among the 28 countries tracked for this report, with $2.05 billion in revenues in 2011. China ranks second with $1.44 billion in revenues, followed by Japan with $759 million. Although the US has the largest DOOH market, total revenues represent less than 30% of the overall OOH market. Thailand's DOOH market represents nearly 50% of Thailand's OOH market, the highest percentage among the 28 countries ranked. Brazil follows with 33%.
How Digital-Forward Markets Selected
PQ Media's proven econometric system - PQ Medianomics™ has tracked global DOOH advertising spend for more than a decade. All 28 markets covered in the report rank in the Top 50 worldwide for population. Importantly, they each meet a combined interrelation threshold for three key DOOH growth criteria - population size (potential eyeballs), Internet access (ability to receive digital content), and mobile phone penetration (ability to interact with DOOH media).
